His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, met with Mr. Marjan Kovacevic, President of the World Federation for Chess Composition (WFCC), at Al Rumaila Palace in Fujairah. The meeting was attended by Dr. Abdullah Ali Al Barkat, Vice President of the WFCC and Chairman of the Fujairah Chess and Culture Club.

During the meeting, His Highness discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the Emirate of Fujairah and the WFCC in promoting chess and supporting initiatives that aim to spread a culture of creative thinking and logical analysis across society—particularly among youth—given the role of chess in developing mental abilities and fostering positive competition.

His Highness emphasized that, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, the emirate is keen to support sports and cultural activities that nurture intellect and refine talent. He pointed out the importance of various sports in shaping a creative generation capable of strategic and innovative thinking across all fields.

For his part, Mr. Marjan Kovacevic expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Crown Prince of Fujairah for the warm reception and his keen interest in chess. He commended His Highness’s support for initiatives that strengthen the sport’s presence in the community, affirming that cooperation with the Emirate of Fujairah will help develop qualitative projects that advance chess both locally and internationally.

He also praised the pioneering initiative sponsored by His Highness—the Grand Prix Championship—which follows an international qualification system through four European stages, culminating in its final competition in the Emirate of Fujairah at the end of 2026.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, Director of the Office of the Crown Prince of Fujairah; Mr. Salem Al Zahmi, Advisor at the Office of the Crown Prince of Fujairah; the accompanying delegation from the World Federation for Chess Composition; and several members of the Fujairah Chess and Culture Club team.
